Ivermectin led to a 100% reduction in hospitalisation rate, a 92% reduction in mortality rate and an 86% reduction in the risk of dying from a COVID-19 infection BY WILL JONES 3 SEPTEMBER 2022 5:55 PM Regular use of ivermectin led to a 100% reduction in hospitalisation rate, a 92% reduction in mortality rate and an 86% reduction in the risk of dying from a COVID-19 infection when compared to non-users, a major new study has found. Ivermectin Tablets USP 12 mg (Iverotaj 12) The study, published in the medical journal Cureus, analysed data from 223,128 people from the city of Itajaí in Brazil and is the largest study of its kind, giving its findings a high degree of certainty. Senior author Dr. Flavio A. Cadegiani wrote on Twitter: “An observational study with the size and level of analysis as ours is hardly achieved and infeasible to be conducted as a randomised clinical trial. Conclusions are hard to be refuted. Data is data, regardless of your beliefs.” The study compared those who took ivermectin regularly, irregularly and not at all prior to being infected with COVID-19 (i.e., as prophylaxis), and found a dose-dependent relationship, confirming that the difference in outcomes is very likely to be due […]

Potassium iodide is a salt of stable iodine, which is needed by the human body to produce thyroid hormones. Most of the iodine that people have in their bodies comes from the food they eat. However, radioactive iodine can be released into the air after a nuclear event, and inhaled into the lungs and then absorbed by the thyroid gland. Potassium iodide and iodine supplements work by blocking radioac Explained: Why Potassium Iodide Pills Are In Demand Since Ukraine War Began According to Centers for Disease Control, potassium iodide can help block radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid gland. The intensifying war in Ukraine has led to a surprising surge in the demand for potassium iodide pills. The fear of radioactive fallout from accidental or intentional attacks on Ukraine’s nuclear plants is the trigger behind the surge. If such an attack takes place, it will release radioactive iodine in the atmosphere, which can be absorbed by lungs or the thyroid glands. What is Potassium Iodide (KI)? Potassium Iodide Tablets USP 130 mg (TAJZOSAT) According to Centers for Disease Control (CC), potassium iodide (represented as KI) is a salt of stable iodine that can help block radioactive iodine from […]

Lyophilization or freeze drying is a process in which water is removed from a product after it is frozen and placed under a vacuum, allowing the ice to change directly from solid to vapor without passing through a liquid phase. The process consists of three separate, unique, and interdependent processes; freezing, primary drying (sublimation), and secondary drying (desorption). The advantages of lyophilization include:Ease of processing a liquid, which simplifies aseptic handlingEnhanced stability of a dry powderRemoval of water without excessive heating of the productEnhanced product stability in a dry stateRapid and easy dissolution of reconstituted productDisadvantages of lyophilization include:Increased handling and processing timeNeed for sterile diluent upon reconstitutionCost and complexity of equipment The lyophilization process generally includes the following steps: Dissolving the drug and excipients in a suitable solvent, generally water for injection (WFI).Sterilizing the bulk solution by passing it through a 0.22 micron bacteria-retentive filter.Filling into individual sterile containers and partially stoppering the containers under aseptic conditions.Transporting the partially stoppered containers to the lyophilizer and loading into the chamber under aseptic conditions.Freezing the solution by placing the partially stoppered containers on cooled shelves in a freeze-drying chamber or pre-freezing in another chamber.Applying a vacuum to the chamber and heating […]

Meta-analysis finds some ivermectin benefits in COVID-19 patient An analysis published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases found a 56% reduced risk of mortality for COVID-19 patients taking the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin compared to standard of care or another therapy. The study pulled data from 24 randomized trials involving 3,328 patients with moderate to severe COVID-19. Ivermectin tablets USP 12 mg (Iverotaj 12) The study also found that ivermectin was “associated with reduced inflammatory markers” and quicker viral clearance. Ivermectin, a widely available inexpensive drug used to treat worm and scabies infections in humans and animals, has emerged as a COVID-19 treatment in several parts of the world. Its use, however, has been controversial. WHO has counseled against its use as a COVID-19 treatment outside of clinical trials. And Merck, an ivermectin manufacturer, released a statement in February saying there was no scientific evidence to support the use of ivermectin for COVID-19. A study recently published in the American Journal of Therapeutics also found some benefits for ivermectin in treating COVID-19 with moderate-certainty evidence. The data from the study published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases is unlikely to convince skeptics. Nine of the studies involved in the meta-analysis were preprints. Another […]

Although several clinical trials are now underway to test possible therapies, the worldwide response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been largely limited to monitoring/containment. We report here that Ivermectin, an FDA-approved anti-parasitic previously shown to have broad-spectrum anti-viral activity in vitro, is an inhibitor of the causative virus (SARS-CoV-2), with a single addition to Vero-hSLAM cells 2 h post infection with SARS-CoV-2 able to effect ~5000-fold reduction in viral RNA at 48 h. Ivermectin therefore warrants further investigation for possible benefits in humans. Ivermectin Tablets USP 12 mg (Iverotaj 12) Source: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.antiviral.2020.104787 1. Introduction Ivermectin is an FDA-approved broad spectrum anti-parasitic agent (Gonzalez Canga et al., 2008) that in recent years we, along with other groups, have shown to have anti-viral activity against a broad range of viruses (Gotz et al., 2016; Lundberg et al., 2013; Tay et al., 2013; Wagstaff et al., 2012) in vitro. Originally identified as an inhibitor of interaction between the human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) integrase protein (IN) and the importin (IMP) α/β1 heterodimer responsible for IN nuclear import (Wagstaff et al., 2011), Ivermectin has since been confirmed to inhibit IN nuclear import and HIV-1 replication (Wagstaff et al., 2012). Other actions of ivermectin have been reported (Mastrangelo […]

A new peer-reviewed study by Dr Pierre Kory and colleagues on Ivermectin has been published in the American Journal of Therapeutics. Entitled “Review of the Emerging Evidence Demonstrating the Efficacy of Ivermectin in the Prophylaxis and Treatment of COVID-19“, it provides a new authoritative overview of the evidence to date and calls for the widely available drug to be “globally and systematically deployed in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19”. The study summarises the impressive evidence base for the use of Ivermectin. Ivermectin dispersible tablets 12mg Iverotaj D.T. 12 1. Since 2012, multiple in vitro studies have demonstrated that Ivermectin inhibits the replication of many viruses, including influenza, Zika, Dengue, and others.2. Ivermectin inhibits SARS-CoV-2 replication and binding to host tissue through several observed and proposed mechanisms.3. Ivermectin has potent anti-inflammatory properties with in vitro data demonstrating profound inhibition of both cytokine production and transcription of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), the most potent mediator of inflammation.4. Ivermectin significantly diminishes viral load and protects against organ damage in multiple animal models when infected with SARS-CoV-2 or similar coronaviruses.5. Ivermectin prevents transmission and development of COVID-19 disease in those exposed to infected patients.6. Ivermectin hastens recovery and prevents deterioration in patients with mild to […]

— Drug to be given to comatose Illinois patient after docs refusedby Jennifer Henderson, Enterprise & Investigative Writer, MedPage Today May 4, 2021 Ivermectin Tablets USP 12 mg (Iverotaj 12) An Illinois judge has ordered a hospital to give ivermectin to a comatose patient with few options left. Judge James Orel of DuPage County ordered Edward-Elmhurst Hospital to allow 68-year-old COVID-19 patient Nurije Fype to receive the drug, even though it isn’t endorsed by federal health agencies, the Chicago Tribune reported. Fox 32 Chicago reported that Fype, who has been in the intensive care unit since early last month and is currently on a ventilator, has since received her first dose. Her daughter, Desareta Fype, enlisted the help of a New York law firm that has taken on other ivermectin cases to force the hospital’s hand after none of its doctors would agree to administer the drug, according to the local media outlets. The Tribune reported Tuesday that an outside doctor was granted credentials at the hospital to administer the ivermectin. “‘Why wouldn’t this be tried if she’s not improving?’” the Tribune quoted Judge Orel as saying during a court hearing. “‘Why does the hospital object to providing this medication? These measures dovetail with preventive steps bosses and business owners can take in order to avoid fresh outbreaks and keep their workers safe.

Developing a Vaccine with New Technology Around 10 January, Chinese scientists developed and shared a full genetic sequence of SARS-Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, colloquially called coronavirus. Several companies are using this information to develop vaccines that will contain a small amount of genetic code. Certain cells in the body will take up this genetic information and produce elements of the virus, not infecting the person but triggering the immune system to respond. DNA or RNA based vaccines are not made with a weakened or deactivated virus, nor elements of the virus, so they can be produced in the lab. This approach is faster and more reliable than traditional vaccine processing, which uses virus grown in eggs or cell cultures. For example, Moderna, in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (USA), developed the first COVID-19 vaccine in clinical trials using a genetic platform called messenger RNA (mRNA). It took only 42 days to move from vaccine design to human testing – an industry record. While genetic platforms are promising and fast, there are currently no such vaccines approved for human use. In addition to the many companies pursuing vaccines on this platform, other companies are […]

‘No one has a real idea of what the total demand is likely to be before the epidemic ends’ “Close the borders! Ground the planes!” Such responses are natural and understandable, but, taken too far, may become counterproductive. Social distancing for individuals is an unfortunate necessity; for countries, the reflex threatens to turn into a terrible policy. The same hoarding impulse to take care of your own, which has led to unnecessarily empty toilet paper shelves all over the world, may exacerbate a far more serious shortage: getting ventilators to the people who need them.

It’s complicated … most vaccines used today took between 5-15 years to perfect. Time to get a COVID-19 vaccine to market is likely to be at least 18 months.Potential treatments require testing and funding.International organizations are helping to fund research. COVID-19 is new and scientists understand little about how it behaves and spreads. The cost of creating a vaccine to protect people against the new coronavirus will run into billions of dollars and could take many months. Here are some of the reasons why. COVID-19 Vaccines are complex to make Technology is enabling new methods of exploring vaccine candidates for trial, but there are already a few tried and tested ways to make them. In all of them, scientists try to stimulate the body’s immune system to combat invasive pathogens. That’s commonly done by creating something so similar to the pathogen that the body begins to create antibodies to fight off the real thing. The most common way of doing this is to make what’s called attenuated vaccines – those that are made of weaker strains of the actual pathogen. Reared on animal cells outside of human bodies (some flu vaccines are cultured on chicken eggs), they are then extracted […]

{Taj Pharmaceuticals Ltd} [Latest generic drug news] What’s the difference between a cold and the flu The common cold and the flu may seem similar at first. They’re both respiratory illnesses and can cause similar symptoms. But different viruses cause these two conditions. Your symptoms help you tell the difference between them. Both a cold and the flu share a few common symptoms. People with either illness often experience: As a rule, flu symptoms are more severe than cold symptoms. Another distinct difference between the two is how serious they are. Colds rarely cause other health conditions or problems. But the flu can lead to sinus and ear infections, pneumonia, and sepsis. To determine whether your symptoms are from a cold or from the flu, you need to see your doctor. Your doctor will run tests that can help determine what’s behind your symptoms. If your doctor diagnoses a cold, you’ll only need to treat your symptoms until the virus has run its course. These treatments can include using over-the-counter (OTC) cold medications, staying hydrated, and getting plenty of rest. Taking flu medicine early in the virus’ cycle may help reduce severity of illness and shorten the time that you […]

This is how HIV decides to become active Researchers have found the molecular mechanism underpinning HIV’s decision to remain in an active or dormant state. This may lead to new therapies that work by keeping the virus in a permanently dormant state. The study, led by a team from the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco, CA, features in a paper now published in the journal Cell. The findings may also explain cell fate decisions that occur elsewhere in biology — such as how stem cells decide whether to remain as stem cells or differentiate into specialized cells, including brain or heart cells, when they divide. Senior study author Prof. Leor S. Weinberger, the director of the Center for Cell Circuitry at the Gladstone Institutes, likens the process to how we “hedge our bets” when we make decisions about financial investments. To “protect against volatility in the market,” we may choose to place some funds in high-risk stocks with potentially high yields and the rest in low-risk, low-yield options. “Similarly,” he explains, “HIV covers its bases in a volatile environment by generating both active and dormant infections.” HIV latent reservoir: Once it enters the human body, HIV inserts its genetic material […]

China coronavirus: All you need to know – A new virus has killed 81 people in China and infected almost 3,000 people, with cases confirmed in several countries. Coronavirus: Everything you need to know Health authorities around the world are grappling with an outbreak of a new coronavirus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. At least 81 people have died in China and almost 3,000 have been infected worldwide. What is a coronavirus? Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), according to the World Health Organization (WHO). They circulate in animals and some can be transmitted between animals and humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. The new coronavirus has been named novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). It is the seventh coronavirus known to affect humans. What are the symptoms? Common signs of infection include fever, coughing and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, SARS, kidney failure and death. The incubation period of the new coronavirus is thought to be between one and 14 […]

What is melanoma? | Melanoma Stages | Melanoma Types | Melanoma Risk factors | Melanoma Symptoms | Melanoma Treatment | Prevention melanoma | Melanoma Diagnosis | Melanoma Outlook Melanoma is a type of skin cancer. It is not the most common, but it is the most serious, as it often spreads. When this happens, it can be difficult to treat, and the outlook may be poor. Risk factors for melanoma include overexposure to the sun, having fair skin, and a family history of melanoma, among others. melanoma Receiving an early diagnosis and getting prompt treatment can improve the outlook for people with melanoma. For this reason, people should keep track of any changing or growing moles. Using adequate protection against sun exposure can help a person prevent melanoma altogether. This article covers the symptoms of melanoma, how a doctor would diagnose it, and ways to treat it. We also explain how best to prevent melanoma. What is melanoma? A person may be more at risk of melanoma if they have a family history of the condition. Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that occurs when pigment producing cells called melanocytes mutate and begin to divide uncontrollably. Most pigment cells […]

Researchers have zoomed in on the fine molecular and epigenetic mechanisms that explain the aggressive spread of melanoma. Scientists examine the epigenetic silencing of circRNA and how this drives the spread of melanoma. Along with DNA and proteins, RNA is one of the three essential macromolecules necessary for all forms of life. The typical process at the basis of all known forms of life comprises three steps: The genetic information from our DNA — which works as the “blueprint” of the cell — is converted into an RNA “photocopy,” which, in turn, helps create proteins required by the cell. Most RNA is in linear form. However, some RNA molecules are circular. These are called circular RNAs (circRNA). Linear RNA encodes proteins, but very few circRNAs have clearly understood functions. In fact, the medical community is only now beginning to elucidate the contribution of circRNA to normal physiology and disease, write the authors of a new paper. So, what is the role of circRNAs in the spread of melanoma? Senior study author Eva Hernando, Ph.D. — an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at New York University (NYU) Langone Health — and colleagues set out to investigate. The question is […]

Kids born with assisted reproduction are not at higher risk of getting cancer Recently, Allison and Honjo have been awarded with the Nobel prize for their findings leading to the new cancer treatment approaches known as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Thanks to these discoveries in fact, the management of the disease has profoundly changed, producing remarkable results on several tumors, even if checkpoint inhibitors have significant side effects, that according to an analysis published in Jama are still poorly known by many health professionals. It is “urgent”, according to authors, “to identify who is at highest risk of severe outcomes, and then develop evidence-based therapies to manage toxicity”. Understanding these adverse effects is essential not for oncologist only, but for every physician in any discipline, as said by Douglas B. Johnson, MD, of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, and colleagues. Indeed, they underlined what are the most common effects which occur in practice in an article published online in JAMA. Many organs can be involved, commonly the skin, the gastrointestinal tract, the lungs, endocrine organs, musculoskeletal, renal, nervous, hematologic, cardiovascular, and ocular systems, thus counting such side effects as a problem to be faced jointly among the various physicians. Autoimmune events are […]

World Oncology Forum articulates the case for investing in affordable cancer care

Despite more than a decade of efforts to address the problem, cancer patients across Europe and the US still cannot rely on essential drugs being available when they need them. Rachel Brazil looks at the size of the problem, its impact on patients and professionals, and the efforts to put in place policies and alternative business models that could offer a solution. For the last decade, headline stories about problems accessing cancer drugs have focused almost exclusively on novel ‘targeted’ treatments. Less publicised is the story of growing problems accessing traditional cytotoxics and other oncology medicines that are no longer on patent, but remain the real workhorses of oncology care across most cancer types. Health services have traditionally relied on the generics market to provide affordable copies of brand-name drugs once the patent that gives market exclusivity has expired. But a persistent problem of re-occurring shortages across a wide range of generics is damaging patient outcomes, adding to the workloads of hospital pharmacists and others in the care team, and raising questions about how to balance the need for competition against the requirement of a guaranteed supply line. Whilst the problem is not unique to oncology, shortages of generic drugs […]

The crisis in access to essential medicines in India: key issues which call for action Author: Anurag Bhargava, SP Kalantri | DOI: https://doi.org/10.20529/IJME.2013.028 Abstract The government is planning to introduce free generic and essential medicines in public health facilities. Most people in India buy healthcare from the private sector, a compulsion that accounts for a high proportion of healthcare-related expenditure. To reduce the burden of healthcare costs, the government must improve availability and affordability of generic and essential medicines in the market. It can do so because India’s large pharmaceutical industry is a major source of generic medicines worldwide. In this article, we discuss three factors that have impeded access to generic and essential medicines: mistaken notions among policymakers, prescribers and patients about branded drugs and generic drugs in India; high prices of medicines due to the progressive dismantling of the system of regulation of medicine prices, and a drug approval and regulatory system that allows medicines (including fixed dose combinations) of doubtful efficacy, rationale, safety and public health relevance to dominate the market at the cost of access to affordable generic and essential medicines. The consequences of ill-health and wasted expenditure on drugs raise issues of public health ethics. […]

Half of pediatric cancers undiagnosed and untreated worldwide Nearly one in two children with cancer are never diagnosed and may die untreated, according to a a new model proposed in a study published in The Lancet Oncology by Zachary Ward and colleagues from Harvard University T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In fact, the model estimates that there were 397.000 childhood cancer cases globally in 2015, while only 224,000 had been previously recorded as diagnosed that year, leading ultimately the researchers to say that over 43% of childhood cancer cases were undiagnosed. But there was substantial regional variation: it ranges from 3% in both Western Europe (120 undiagnosed cases out of 4,300 total new cases) and North America (300 of 10,900 cases), to 57% (43,000 of 76,000 new cases) in Western Africa. With such path, at current levels of health system performances, If no improvements are made, the study authors estimated that nearly three million out of 6.7 million total cases will be missed between 2015 and 2030. Accounting for underestimation is vital: accurate estimates of incidence are important for policy makers, however, many countries do not have cancer registries that quantify that incidence (and often even if they do […]

Global Call To Action on Familial Hypercholesterolemia: Aims to Improve Diagnosis and Treatment Worldwide The FH Foundation and the World Heart Federation announced today a Global Call to Action on familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a vastly under-recognized and poorly managed public health concern. Published in JAMA Cardiology and authored by a global panel of scientific experts, advocacy leaders, public health officials, and individuals with FH from 40 countries, the report notes glaring gaps in screening and guideline-based care for FH, the most common cause of early and aggressive heart disease. FH is an inherited metabolic disorder found in all races and ethnicities and impacts 34 million people worldwide. FH causes high LDL-cholesterol from birth and should be diagnosed and treated within the first two decades of life. Left untreated, individuals with FH have a 20-times higher risk of illness and death from cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, if diagnosed and treated, heart attacks, strokes and the need for surgery can be prevented. The international coalition was convened by the FH Foundation and World Heart Federation to reexamine and update key recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) in their report on Familial Hypercholesterolemia in 1998. In the 20 years since that report, […]
